A BEAR WHO NEEDS A HUG

It has been quite a while since I last posted, and our summer is now nearly over. I promise I have been busy making bears and not sitting idle, Jacqui makes sure of that LOL!!! I am sure she has eyes in the back of her head. I have been working on commissions and have not been able to put a bear out to show

collectors. This last weekend I set some time aside to rectify this and Davenport was created. He is one of my 15 inch bears made from a rich copper and a coconut cream on a chocolate brown backing, German mohair. He has been heavily aged and certainly looks as if he has been really well loved and played with for many years, but is still ready to receive plenty more hugs.

I am very pleased that Davenport has been well received and sold immediately he was released. I am hoping to put a bit more time to one side this bank holiday weekend to make another bear, but it all depends on how I get on with this commission I am working on as I have a lot of ageing to do on it yet, so when I am happy with it, I will try and break off to make one to release.

A TRADITIONAL BEAR CALLED HERMAN

HERMAN

I have been playing around with my patterns this last week, as I wanted to create a very traditional looking bear but with a plumper looking muzzle, and here is my first attempt with my new pattern "Herman".

Herman is 12 inches tall and a One of a Kind. He is made from a classic traditional teddy bear mohair which is a golden yellow colour, with matching wool felt paw pads. I have given him amber glass eyes and a brown embroidered thread bare nose, and I have managed to give him a sweet smile, which is something I do not often manage LOL!!!

He is fully aged and distressed to give him the appearance of a bear with a happy, loving past.

Herman is now looking for a loving owner.

BYRON

This sad looking reproduction old bear is 12 inches tall and One of a Kind. Byron has been made from a antique style ginger with an inky blue tip, South African mohair, his paw pads are a matching German wool felt, which have black claw detailing, and one foot pad has the tell tale sign of a Furgotten Bear, the worn out label.

Byron is very traditional in shape, long straight legs and hockey stick shaped arms. He has one antique black shoe button eye and if one was perhaps lost in his long life, a vintage button has been used as a replacement. He has a black thread bare embroidered nose but still maintains a sweet smile.

Byron has been extensively aged and stained in all the appropriate places a bear with a history would have. He is very softly filled which adds to his overall charm, and is five way cotter pin jointed.

Byron has been adopted.

Whitby is a 10 inch One of a Kind bear who is made from a dense, short pile, cream German mohair. His paw pads have been made from a matching cream coloured, thick quality German wool felt with hand embroidered black claws, one foot pad has the tell-tale sign of a Furgotten Bear, the little aged label. Whitby has amber glass eyes and a black, waxed, thread bare nose. This sweet soulful looking bear has been aged and stained in all the appropriate places to give the appearance he has had lots of years of loving and plenty of cuddles too, even with the odd spot of fake darning. Whitby is a traditional style bear who has a small hump, hockey stick shaped arms and long straight legs. This charming little bear is fully cotter pin jointed and softly filled with a heavy weight stuffing.

Whitby has found a new home.

Crabtree

It's been a little while since my last post, so long as to say "HAPPY NEW YEAR".

Where has this month gone? Time is passing by so quickly... It must be an age thing lol.

Here is some info and a few pictures on Crabtree, I hope you enjoy.

Crabtree is a 14 inch One of a Kind traditional bear who has been made to look as if he has been loved and treasured throughout a long life. This charming looking bear is made from an antique looking rusty red German mohair, which has been made to look a bit sparse in places and even with the odd spot of black fake darning. His paw pads are made from a creamy coloured suedette, and have also been given the odd bit of ageing and staining. One of Crabtree's foot pads has my tell-tale sign of a Furgotten Bear, a worn out label. He is a bear of traditional characteristics i.e hump, long snout, hockey stick shaped arms and long straight legs. Crabtree has an innocent look to his face even though he has only one good eye to see the world through, which is a black antique glass one and where the other eye should be it has been replaced with an antique button. He hopes this will still make him look appealing even though his nose is a little threadbare and worn he can manage a sweet smile. Crabtree is fully jointed and softly filled with a heavy weight stuffing.

Crabtree has found a new home.

CHEEKY MONKEY !!!

FREDRICK

I would like to introduce you to Fredrick, he is the latest design in my Furgotten range.

Fredrick is a 10 inch, One of a Kind mischievous monkey,( I think you can tell by the cheeky glint in his eyes).

Fredrick is made from an antique fabric which is a very rich gold colour, his little face is made from a beige colour, his chin is a cream colour German wool felt. Little Fredricks, ears , feet and hands are also made from a beige coloured German wool felt with needle sculpted detailing. This cheeky little boy has aged amber glass eyes and the odd patch of fake black darning. He has been aged and distressed in all the appropriate place a little cheeky playmate would be after years of fun and love.

Fredrick is softly filled and is fully jointed, his head is wobble jointed to achieve extra mischievous poses.

Fredrick has found a new home in the UK - Let's hope he is well behaved. :o)

HATTIE

This little gem is Hattie my latest Furgotten Bear(well elephant). She is a tad under 7.5 inches tall.

She is named after the famous Hattie of New York City's Central Park Zoo, in 1903 was described as the "most intelligent of all elephants"

Hattie is made from an antique stone coloured matted German mohair, her inner ears and dainty little paw pads are made from a very pale stone suedette, which have the grubby appearance a little loved elephant would have over the years after lots of play. I have made a little romper suit out of a fine cotton peach print fabric and trimmed with a delicate vintage cotton lace, which mucky little Hattie has dirtied over the time.

CYRUS

I would like to show you my latest Furgotten Bear called Cyrus.

Cyrus is one of my larger bears, who is 18 inches tall and a One of a Kind.

This rather handsome boy who does not like to be too far away from his toy ball, is made from a stone coloured, matted effect German mohair, his paw pads are made from a beige coloured German wool felt with black embroidered claw detailing. One paw pad has the tell-tale sign of a Furgotten Bear, the worn out label.

Cyrus has large old black boot button eyes and a black, waxed thread bare nose. This bear has all the characteristics of a traditional style bear, the hump, hockey stick shaped arms and long straight legs. He has been lovingly aged in all the right places a bear with a past history would have. To add to this bears old world charm I have made him his own German wool felt ball, which I have also aged to be in keeping with Cyrus's overall look of an old bear.

Cyrus is fully jointed and softly filled.

BAXTER

Well I have finally managed to finish my black and tan bear, his name is Baxter. He's made from a dense German mohair, fine distressed leather paw pads and has old amber glass eyes. He has typical long hockey stick arms and a slight hump that you would expect to find on a genuine antique bear. I have to admit, I have enjoyed making Baxter as I usually dislike working on black bears as they are very hard on the eyes! For me the inspiration was the leather, I had scuffed a piece and seen the warn tan colour beneath the brown.

I hope you like the finished result..... I'm sure Baxter is pleased.

IVOR

I can't believe how long it has been since my last post! How time flies by. I had in mind an autumnal coloured bear, Ivor is the result. I have a few more bears in the planning stage so, keep an eye out as they won't be long in the making. :o)

Ivor is a 19 inch one of a kind, with a much-loved look traditional style bear. This handsome boy has all the traditional features I use to make this "old looking" style bear, the long snout, large hump, hockey stick shaped arms and long straight legs.
Ivor is made from a vintage rich gold, dense velvet cloth. His paw pads are a rich golden brown ultrasuede fabric which have been given my magic ageing touches and black embroidered claw detailing to finish off. Not forgetting the old worn out label on one foot pad that is my trademark of a Furgotten Bear. Ivor has old black glass eyes and a hand embroidered thread bare nose, fortunately he still has a charming embroidered smile, to melt hearts. This big boy is full of character and oozing personality, he is fully jointed and softly filled with a heavy weight stuffing.

INTRODUCING NEWTON

Sorry it has been a little while since I have last posted. Time has just flown by.

I have been wading through orders these last few weeks, and have just managed to squeeze this little guy in. He is called Newton, he is 10 inches tall. Newton is made from a powder blue on a french blue backing, sparse effect mohair. Lovely fabric to work with! As you can see from his picture he has been given the "Darren Treatment". After I have had my hands on him he no longer looks like he is made from the new mohair used to make him, but hopefully now like a bear who has survived to present day with a loving past history.

Newton has found a home in California, so I better get working as I am hoping Jacqui will let me take a couple of my bears to Hugglets.

Its been awhile since I last blogged, I promise I have not been idle. I have been busy preparing a competition bear and also have managed to make poor old Philpot. Such a weary looking bear who is 10 inches tall and made from a rusty red on a dark brown backing, antique looking German mohair. VICTORIA - We are not amused!!!!

After at lot of nagging from Jacqui about way don't I do a pink bear, I have finally succumbed and here she is "Victoria".

This sad old girl has only one good eye, which is a genuine antique boot button, the other eye has been replaced with an antique, small cream button...she feels a lot better now!

Victoria is one of my 10 inch bears who has been made from a pastel pink with a pale buttermilk backing, German mohair. I think my next bear will have to be another boy :-)

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING ERNEST!!!

ERNEST

After waiting for a long time, I have finally found the right bear to make from a genuine 90 year old piece of mohair I have acquired from Germany, and here he is "Ernest".

Ernest is a wonderful cinnamon colour, which I have spent many an hour ageing and distressing him to get the desired effect I wanted for a bear who would have looked a bit on the sad side for his 90 years. He has old amber glass eyes and a waxed thread bare embroidered nose. I have softly filled him so he looks a little saggy, but still full of character.

Sadly I do not think I will be able to acquire anymore of this mohair as it was in perfect condition until I put my hands to it :-) usually you can still find the odd bit of genuine old mohair but more often than not it already shows signs of wear and tear, which to use on creating an old looking bear will not give the appropriate places a bear would have genuine signs of age, as you cannot guarantee to get the wear to appear in the correct places, so I have been very fortunate to find this large piece in immaculate condition. I only thought it right to show him off with vintage style photographs, but if you would like to see him as an original picture in his real fur colour please email me and I will send you photographs.

Ernest has found a loving home in Australia.

BETTY

It has been a little while since I last posted...SORRY!! but I have been very busy with orders for my Furgotten Bears, and it has not helped that two weeks ago I broke my toe, that will teach me to kick the door frame LOL!!!

Betty is my latest Furgotten bear who is a rather worn out, well-loved lady bear who is 14 inches tall and a One of a Kind traditional looking mohair bear who is one of my original designs and created by myself.

Betty is made from a stone coloured, German mohair, which has been given a felted appearance and carefully aged and worn in all the appropriate places. One of her paw pads has my trade-mark of a Furgotten Bear, a handmade worn looking label.

I have also made this sad little lady a handmade collar from french voille and cotton and given it a little of my ageing treatment, normally women want anti-ageing treatment, I do not think my techniques would go down too well and would certainly bring tears to the eyes LOL!!!

TOMMY

Tommy is a such a sad, slumpy looking bear who is 14 inches tall and looking for a really loving home, where he can receive lots of love and attention. Dear Tommy is made from a chocolate brown, antique looking, felted, sparse mohair, his paw pads are a pale biscuit coloured German wool felt with black embroidered claw detailing, one of which has the tell-tale sign of a Furgotten Bear, the little worn out label on one foot. Tommy has black glass eyes which have been aged and pitted for a genuine look of old glass. He has a black embroidered threadbare nose and if you are careful you might see his slight smile. Tommy has been lovingly aged and distressed in all the appropriate places a bear would have that had received plenty of hugs throughout the years. This poor little bear is fully jointed, but his head slightly on the loose side for a floppy look, which also shows off his large hump. Tommy is soft filled with a heavy weight stuffing for a slumpy soft, cuddly feel.

Tommy has been adopted.

STANLEY

I would like to introduce you to Stanley, my latest Furgotten Bear. Stanley is a 13 inch new, but old looking Panda style teddy bear, who certainly looks as if he has been well and truly loved in a past life. Stanley is made from a antique dark ox-blood red and blonde, sparse effect German mohair, his paw pads are distressed mohair, one of Stanleys paw pads has the tell-tale sign of a Furgotten Bear, the worn-out Furgotten label, which you will always find on one of my bears. Sad little Stanley has beautiful amber glass eyes, a long snout with a threadbare black embroidered nose, long straight arms and legs and a large sagging hump. This poor bear has been softly filled with a heavy weight stuffing, as little Stanley is hoping for plenty of hugs in his new life. Stanley is fully jointed but his head has been jointed on the loose side for a floppy forlorn look.

Stanley has been adopted.

RIDLEY

Ridley is one of Darrens latest Furgotten bears who is 10 inches tall and a sad, old looking bear. Ridley is made from a golden yellow, genuine antique fabric, which has been aged and distressed in the appropriate places that would be showing worn patches after plenty of cuddles over a long period of time, there is even the odd patch of fake darning. His paw pads are made from a brown suedette, which have also been given the antique look. Ridley has geninue black boot button eyes and a black embroidered threadbare nose, and not forgetting his embroidered black claws, This sad looking bear has the usual Forgotten Bear trademark label on one of his foot pads. Ridley has a hump, hockey stick shape arms and long straight legs, he is fully jointed, but his head has been loosely jointed to add to his charm.

Ephraim

a charming 14 inch tired, old looking bear, who is made from a blonde, felted German mohair, which once upon a time was a little bit curly, which has also been aged and distressed in the appropriate places that would be showing wear after years of plenty of cuddles. His paw pads have been made from a brown suedette fabric, one of which has the tell-tale sign of a Furgotten Bear...its worn out label which you will find on the bears right paw. Ephraim has a geninue black shoe button eye and sadly a little old black button for the other. He has a black embroidered threadbare nose and not forgetting his embroidered black claws. Poor Ephraim has the usual sign of a traditional teddy bear a hump! and not forgetting hockey stick shaped arms and long straight legs. Ephraim is five way jointed, his head has been loosely jointed for extra posing.

RAMSEY

This sad and a little worn in places bear has been made from a warm beige coloured, short pile, felted with an antique look, German mohair. His little paw pads have been made from a beige coloured German wool felt. Ramsey has small shiny black glass eyes and a black embroidered threadbare nose, but still manages to have a cheeky little grin. Ramsey is a traditional styled bear with a nice sized hump, hockey stick arms and long straight legs, his paw pads have also been embroidered with black perle cotton to create the effect of claws. Poor little Ramsey, with his blue check tatty looking ribbon, has been lovingly worn and aged in all the appropriate places a well loved bear would be after years of hugs and cuddles, and also you will find a worn out label on one of his paw pads which is Darrens tell-tale sign of a Furgotten Bear. Ramsey is fully jointed, his head has been jointed slightly on the lose side for better positioning, he has also been filled firmly with a heavy weight stuffing.

Amos

Amos is a 10 inch One of a Kind bear.

This cheerful looking but sadly a little worn in places bear had been made from a sandstone coloured, short pile with an antique look, German mohair. His little paw pads have been made from a biscuit coloured German wool felt. Amos has small shiny black glass eyes and a black embroidered threadbare nose, but still manages to have a cheeky little grin.

Amos is a traditional styled bear with a nice sized hump, hockey stick arms and long straight legs, his paw pads have also been embroidered with black perle cotton to create the effect of claws.

Poor little Amos has been lovingly worn and aged in all the appropriate places a well loved bear would be after years of hugs and cuddles, and also you will find a worn out label on one of his paw pads.

Amos is fully jointed, his head has been jointed slightly on the lose side for better positioning, he has also been filled softly with a heavy weight stuffing to give a soft feel but feeling a bit weighty at the same time.

PRICE: ADOPTED

Amos is off to live in America - lucky bear !!

Tom is a vintage style Furgotton Bear, he is 14 inches tall. He was made from a sparse German mohair. He has worn patches like you would find on a genuine old bear and his worn out lable on his foot.
